WHY WE CARE
Adventure in Every Season
Head out on the family-friendly paths that crisscross the preserve, where you can find the perfect spot for a shoreline picnic with sweeping coastal views. A hand-carry, tidal access point on the shores of Cousins Creek awaits your kayak. And in the winter, the open landscape is also ideal for a day of sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing across the preserve’s open fields.

Getting to Know Kelley Farm
Kelley Farm Preserve is a 10-acre saltwater farm located in the village of Bernard on Mount Desert Island. The property, which MCHT purchased from the Kelley family in 2014, consists of open fields that slope gently down to Cousins Creek, a tidal inlet in upper Bass Harbor. The preserve enjoys agricultural soils of statewide significance and is now the site of community garden plots.
STORIES FROM MOUNT DESERT ISLAND
Deepening Our Connections to Nature and One Another
Our stories remind us why we commit ourselves to the work of conservation. Here in Maine, nature is still big and bold enough to remind us that we are part of it. We want to make sure this remains true.
