At Meet the Marsh, MCHT’s preserve at Cousins River is nature’s classroom with family-friendly activities, trails and marsh to explore, fall-themed ambience, and plentiful tasty treats, all amid a beautiful seasonal landscape. Don’t miss this chance to explore the outdoors and celebrate with your community!

Activities include:

This event is also a celebration of marshes! Discover the Cousins River marsh and the important role marshes play in coastal conservation efforts and climate resiliency. Explore the flora and fauna that thrive in marshes and even take home a one-of-a-kind cyanotype art piece. Observe (and maybe even meet) the wildlife that support marsh ecosystems. Get to know the dedicated people and organizations who make this conservation work possible.

MCHT conserved Cousins River Fields & Marsh Preserve in 2023 and now we have the opportunity to take the next step: adding over a mile of universally accessible trail along with seating and gathering spaces. At Meet the Marsh, visitors will experience firsthand how these improvements will make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the marsh and the abounding natural environment at the preserve. Learn more about the Cousins River ADA-Accessible Trail project and how to get involved.

Meet the Marsh is presented in partnership with the Cousins River Marsh Collaborative and is free to attend. No registration is required.

The Cousins River Marsh Collaborative includes Maine Coast Heritage Trust, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Freeport Conservation Trust, University of Southern Maine, Casco Bay Estuary Partnership, Royal River Conservation Trust & Neighbors, UMass Sediment and Coastal Dynamics Lab, and Yarmouth Community Alliance for Racial Equity (YCARE).
