Misha Mytar, Senior Director of Land Protection

Misha joined MCHT in 2011 and most recently served as associate director of Land Protection, where she played a pivotal role in shaping MCHT’s strategic plan, managing complex conservation transactions, and coordinating Conservation Limited Development LLC, a subsidiary of MCHT.
Through her management of land protection efforts on Mount Desert Island, Misha has forged longstanding partnerships with landowners, local partners, and organizations ranging from Acadia National Park, Friends of Acadia, and the Mount Desert Land and Garden Preserve to the Island Housing Trust, with a focus on conserving ecologically and culturally significant landscapes and community resources. Her work has been instrumental in securing critical properties on Mount Desert Island and beyond, and she brings unique expertise in expanding public access to the coast.
Misha grew up in eastern Maine, graduated from Yale University with a degree in anthropology, and earned her master’s degree in community planning and development from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. Misha now lives in Bar Harbor with her husband and their two children, where she serves in roles on nonprofit boards and town government.
On land conservation: “For me, land conservation is about investing in our future and pursuing equity. Coastal Maine is a special place to live, with amazing natural resources. My work helps ensure these resources can endure and benefit many.”
On the job: You can find Misha on Mount Desert Island, where MCHT got its start and continues to fill the role of local land trust. Misha works with MDI landowners and partners like Acadia National Park on a diverse portfolio of land projects which enhance the conservation legacy of the region and benefit the local community.
