We’re committed to fostering the next generation of conservationists in Maine. To that end, MCHT provides paid summer internships to Maine college students seeking work experience in land conservation.

Interns are selected through a competitive application process and paired with a host land trust. Currently we pair 11 students with land trusts throughout the state.

What’s involved

After a week of training, interns devote nine weeks to hands-on work in the many facets of land conservation. Interns build trails, conduct research, steward conservation easements, engage with the local community, and contribute to communications, membership, and fundraising.

Host organizations provide housing, training, and supervision throughout the summer.

At the middle and end of the season, our program manager brings everyone together to reconnect, visit a conserved property, share stories and experiences, and problem solve and provide input on the program.
