Winter Tree Walk

Feb 21 | 1:00p.m. – 3:00p.m.

Come for a hike with a Maine Master Naturalist at Hamilton Cove in Lubec

How do trees make it through the winter?

Come for a hike with a Maine Master Naturalist at Hamilton Cove in Lubec and discover how trees in Maine have come to survive the cold winter days and harsh conditions. Trees are incredibly resilient and resourceful, and there is much to learn about and from their adaptations. We will also be looking into how to identify trees in the wintertime. Bring water, durable footwear, and warm clothes. The hike will be about 2.5 miles and go along the Grand Manan Channel. The program will last about 2 hours.

This program will be guided by Holly O’Neal. Holly grew up along the Ohio River and fell in love with nature from an early age. She moved to Maine about 8 years ago and worked on a lobster boat before transitioning into environmental education and advocacy. She enjoys connecting people with the natural world. She has a B.S. from Oregon State University in Natural Resources with a focus in education, and she recently got her Maine Guide license and Maine Master Naturalist certification.
