Lead Writer & Brand Manager
Originally from Chautauqua County, New York, Sophie Nelson came to Maine to attend Bates College and quickly fell in love with the state. Now it’s home. After receiving a BFA in English, she taught in Taiwan and traveled throughout Asia before returning to the Maine coast. Sophie received her MFA in Creative Writing from University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program in 2014. She has written for a variety of regional and national publications, edited novels, and taught writing. She loves living in Bath with her partner, son, and their quirky poodle.
On land conservation: “Natural beauty brought me to Maine and keeps me here. Before working at MCHT, I knew little of the effort and generosity that goes into protecting every acre of land open to me. Now I know. Conservation makes all of our lives richer.”
On the job: Sophie collects and shares stories about the many facets of MCHT’s work and people’s passion for the Maine coast.
