Nolan O’Brien, Associate Director of Organizational Leadership

Nolan (he/him) joined MCHT in February 2022 as Executive Assistant to the President and CEO and to the Sr. Director of Communications and Philanthropy. Now as Associate Director of Organizational Leadership, Nolan works closely with the President and CEO, serving as a strategic partner and key organizational coordinator. He plays a central role in the coordination and management of MCHT’s leadership bodies—including the Board of Directors, the Council, and the Senior Leadership Team.
Originally from Massachusetts, Nolan previously worked as an Aide and then Regional Director in U.S. Senator Ed Markey’s Boston office. There he worked in constituent services related to climate change and the environment, staffed the Senator at events, and attended meetings with local officials on the Senator’s behalf.
After countless summer visits, Nolan, his partner Zach, and their canine companion Eleanor, have made Vacationland home. Nolan loves exploring Maine’s unique coast—from Harpswell to Lubec and everywhere in-between.
When not enjoying the great outdoors, he can be found curled up with a good book (especially works of sci-fi or history), binging the latest popular TV series, or trying out the newest foodie destination.
On land conservation: “My old boss used to say, ‘There is no Planet B,’ which was very corny and very true. Conservation is one of the strongest tools we have to protect the lands, waters, and wildlife we love from the worst impacts of a changing climate while deepening connection to those places and supporting the communities who depend on them. I’m grateful to be a very small part of this crucial effort.”
On the job: Nolan serves as a strategic partner and key organizational coordinator for the President and CEO. He plays a central role in the coordination and management of MCHT’s leadership bodies—including the Board of Directors, Executive and Governance Committees, the Council, the Senior Leadership Team, and the Expanded Leadership Group. Nolan also works to strengthen internal communications.
