Megan Shore, Conservation Resilience Specialist

Megan grew up in the fishing community of Gloucester, MA where she developed a deep love for the ocean and commitment to community. After four years in the cornfields of Ohio, Megan returned to New England and has since called Maine home.
Through her career in the nonprofit sector she has worked to uplift the interconnected wellbeing of people, place, and animals. Megan first worked for MCHT in the early 2000s where she shaped and grew the Land Trust Program. She returned in 2025 after 15 years with the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation, where she most recently served as Policy & Strategy Director.
Megan is honored to be mother two young adults—both of whom are bravely creating their own paths. Dogs, hiking, playing on and in the ocean, reading, and sharing meals with friends nourish her outside of work.
On land conservation: “If I wasn’t in school, I was outside. Sitting in a tree to do my homework, swimming, climbing a mountain, working with horses, or walking a dog. I was lucky enough to live in places with abundant opportunities to be outside. I also saw— very directly—the impact of overfishing and the correlation between healthy marine systems and the wellbeing of my community.”
“I started my career with a pretty skeptical view of the capacity of humanity, with thoughts tending toward protecting the environment from people. Today, I see conservation as part of the interconnected whole—playing a critical and evolving role in the health and wellbeing of human, plant, and animal communities—in relationship with one another. I see so much opportunity in conservation and the conservation community to work alongside others for communities and places that are truly thriving.”
On the job: Megan is pleased to bring her experience in organizational development, program design, and shared learning back to Maine’s conservation community where she will work directly with land trusts and other organizations to strengthen their capacity and advance the sector as a whole. Her work primarily focuses on inclusive community conservation, sustained collaborations and mergers, adaptive leadership, and organizational development and change management coaching and facilitation.
