New Lands to Discover
2014 was a busy year for coastal land protection efforts. Maine Coast Heritage Trust (in partnership with Federal, State, and local partners) protected more than 1,400 acres from Cumberland County to Cobscook Bay.
Help Protect High Island
MCHT has an opportunity to protect this scenic island centrally located between Long Cove and Tenants Harbor in Saint George.
Lower Weskeag Fields and Forests
In partnership with Georges River Land Trust and the Maine Department of Island Fisheries and Wildlife, Maine Coast Heritage Trust is leading an effort to conserve 238 acres on the lower Weskeag.
State and Municipal Funds Bolster Coastal Land Conservation
2014 was a strong year for land conservation projects on Maine’s coast, many of which received funding from state and municipal sources. Projects ranged from protecting popular hunting and fishing areas, to expanding downtown riverfront access to ensuring scenic islands remain available to the public for outdoor exploration.
Saltwater Farm in Bernard Conserved for Public Access
With support from donors to its recent Mount Desert Island Land Conservation Initiative, MCHT purchased the property from the Kelley family who have lived there for over half a century.
Pond Island Paradise
Thanks to a generous donation, Pond Island is now a MCHT preserve that offers visitors spectacular views in all directions–from Mount Desert Island to Isle au Haut.
