Mitchell Marsh is great for:

Paddling – Steer your kayak to Mitchell Marsh’s cobble beach to enjoy a break from the water and a quiet picnic lunch.

Birdwatching – Pack your binoculars and discover the preserve’s diverse wetland and coastal habitats where many shorebirds and waterfowl visit throughout the year.

How to get there

Although located on Mount Desert Island, this preserve is only accessible from the water. Small boats and kayaks can land easily on the property’s beach. The nearest public boat ramp is on the west side of Bass Harbor (village of Bernard), which is about a 2.75-mile paddle along the shore. There is also public water access in Seal Cove to the north, which would be about a 4.3-mile paddle along the shore.
