“Writing the Land is an attempt to honor nature and our relationship with it in a way that is as equitable and transparent as it is deep and entangled. We intend to be as inclusive—to humans and places—as we hope the mantle of protection that land trusts offer can be.”
Tour a preserve, learn from a land steward, or enjoy calming coastal moments.
The Babson Creek Learning forest is an ecologically important expanse of woodlands, home to wildlife, wetlands, and vernal pools—it’s also a natural extension of The Community School, a permanent outdoor education space on Mount Desert Island.
Maine Heritage Newsletters
We publish three editions of the Maine Heritage newsletter. The Coast-wide edition highlights noteworthy land conservation projects throughout the state while the Midcoast and Downeast versions focus in on those respective regions.

In “Notes from the Coast,” Maine Coast Heritage Trust president and CEO Kate Stookey delves into a particular topic area, shares thoughts and questions we’re exploring at MCHT, and celebrates the impact we’re able to achieve thanks to your support.
