Marshes provide essential habitat for countless species, including juvenile lobster and clams, herons, and the endangered salt marsh sparrow. But they also are incredibly important in a changing climate. Marshes help protect built infrastructure and are incredibly effective at removing gases like carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing them in roots and soils below—as much as ten times more effective than forests per acre!

We're working along the entire Maine coast.

Who we are...

MCHT is a nonprofit land conservation organization protecting and caring for vital lands on the coast of Maine. Through the generosity of donors, we've been able to protect over 170,000 acres and 330 islands, including over 150 public preserves.
