The Menu:

A classic New England lobster bake, featuring the freshest Maine lobster, clams, corn, potatoes, salt pork, and eggs.

Maine Beer Company will be pouring tasty brews throughout the event and a variety of soft drinks will be available. Wine will be available for our gluten-free friends and served with the meal for everyone. No other adult beverages will be permitted on the islands.

The Schedule:

The Shindig is known for its unique and delicious sit-down dinner on the sandbar that emerges at low tide! This summer’s tide schedule aligns with a morning low, meaning we’ll be feasting first. Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of time afterward to socialize, savor a cold Maine Beer Company brew, and enjoy tasty snacks from Big Tree.

10:00 – 11:00 am: Boat shuttles to the island

11:30 am: Lobster feast on the sand bar

12:30 pm – 3:00 pm: Explore the island, socialize, visit the kid’s crafts area, try the kayaks and paddleboards, take a swim.

3:00 – 4:00 pm: Shuttles depart (shuttles available throughout the day)

What to bring:

Pack like you’re spending the day outside—bring towels, beach chairs, blankets, sunscreen, hats, bug spray, water, special snacks for the kids, etc.

Bring extra layers to stay warm.

Be prepared to get your feet wet getting off and on the boat at the island. There is no dock there. A pair of water shoes or Teva-like sandals are perfect! Bring dry shoes to change in to.

Like to swim or wade? Bathing suits are a good idea.

Restroom details:

This is a rugged, uninhabited Maine island that is vulnerable to human impact. There are no facilities here. We will have a rustic “rest room” set up with wag bags for your use. Be prepared to be one with nature!

There is an outhouse at the boat launch – please use before you depart for the island.

Wag Bags

We will create a rustic “restroom” on the island. This means a private area with “wag bags” for solid waste. Someone needs to poop? This is your solution. Leave No Trace protocols mean we carry everything off the island. Wag bags are easy to use and effective. Simple instructions will be posted.

Please assist your children – it can be challenging for all ages. There will be a trash can there for your completed wag bag.

Thank you for minimizing our impact on this beautiful place.

Boat Shuttles:

Parking will be at:

Smith Boatyard, 1003 Mere Point Rd, Brunswick, ME 04011

All cars will park at this satellite lot, located less than a mile from Mere Point Boat Launch. Look for the MCHT parking signs. We provide van service for the short ride to the boat launch. Please do not park at the boat launch – you’ll be at risk for ticketing or towing! We’ll email directions and an event reminder one week before the event.

Cancellation policy:

  • If we have to cancel due to bad weather, we’ll notify you by email at least 24 hours in advance and you will receive a full refund. This decision will be made by our boat captains. If it’s just a little morning drizzle, we’ll be there!
  • If your plans change and you cancel:
    • Cancellations made on or before July 12 receive a full refund
    • Cancellations made after July 12 and no-shows will not be issued a refund. However, you’re welcome to transfer your tickets to a friend!
