Island Tour Series: Little Whaleboat Island Botany with Amanda Devine

Join Harpswell Heritage Land Trust and MCHT for a field trip to Little Whaleboat! For this trip, we will be visiting the newly acquired Little Whaleboat Island for a botanical excursion led by MCHT regional stewardship manager Amanda Devine.
Participants will be shuttled a short distance to and from the island via Mitchell Field, and the botany tour itself will last for approximately two hours. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch to enjoy after the excursion while on the island. Participants should be reasonably comfortable getting on and off small boats. Please wear shoes that you wouldn’t mind getting wet or muddy. Space is limited and advance registration is required.
About Amanda: Amanda received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bates College and a Master of Science in Botany from the University of Vermont’s Field Naturalist Program, where she focused on carbon cycling in the aftermath of forest fire. She returned to Maine in 2007 and has since become passionate about science-based management of coastal Maine’s natural resources. Amanda stewards MCHT properties throughout the Midcoast region. Amanda will lead a walking tour of the island focused on coastal Maine’s native flora.
