The Cutler Harbor Community Access Project is a Success!
A collaboration between MCHT and the town of Cutler protects access to an outstanding preserve, creates a new town park, and improves access to the harbor for recreation and commercial fishing
Update: April 2023
We’re excited to announce that Maine Coast Heritage Trust and the town of Cutler have completed a one-of-a-kind project to:
- Protect 4.4 shorefront acres that the Town of Cutler will develop into a town park
- Increase public access to Cutler Harbor for recreation and commercial fishing
- Secure access to and expand parking for MCHT’s Western Head Preserve, where beautiful trails offer a 3.5-mile round-trip hike to spectacular coastal headlands.
The first stage of this unique coastal access improvement effort, made possible through collaboration and generous donations, was completed in the spring of 2023.
Over the coming months and years, MCHT will be working to improve access to Western Head with the construction of a new parking lot and trails. The current parking lot is quite small and cannot accommodate many visitors. We also look forward to working with the town as they develop plans for the adjacent shorefront property, which has the potential to be an outstanding park for locals and visitors to enjoy.
Stay tuned!
