Before joining MCHT, Patrick worked as the Administrative Director of Blue Hill Heritage Trust, the local land trust in Blue Hill, Maine. He was BHHT’s first and only staff person for the six years he worked there. Prior to working for BHHT, Patrick interned at MCHT in 1991 and completed project work for Friends of Acadia and the Maine Department of Conservation, in addition to carpentry work. Patrick served on the board of the Maluhsihikon Petroglyph Foundation, a Machias-based foundation dedicated to preserving the 3,000-year-old Native American rock carvings of Machias Bay, from 2004 to 2013. He currently serves on the Board of the Pleasant River Wildlife Foundation in Addison. Patrick received his BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, where he resided for about 20 years and raised two children, Benjamin and Olivia. He now lives in Orono with his wife Catherine Thibedeau and three step children, Anna, Joe, and Henry.

Patrick has been with MCHT since 2001.

On land conservation: “Through conservation we can take an actual physical place—maybe a waterfront meadow that could become a community garden, or a scenic peninsula rich in archaeological resources and sacred to the Passamaquoddy Tribe—and keep it safe from subdivision and exploitation, and make it accessible for many more people to enjoy.”

On the job: When he’s not in the office attending meetings or writing grants, Patrick visits properties and islands along the downeast coast to assess their conservation potential. He meets with families, community members, and many partner organizations who are looking for MCHT’s help to conserve these special places.
