Charlene Swift joined MCHT in February 2016 as the Executive Assistant to the President and Director of Engagement (formerly Development). Originally from Massachusetts, they have lived in San Francisco, Atlanta, and Brooklyn, NY. After 12 years of annual visits to Maine, Charlene, spouse Patricia, and their animal companions moved to Maine in the spring of 2015.

Charlene brings over 30 years of experience in administrative, operations and customer service management in several diverse industries. Before joining MCHT, Charlene was a staff member the Park Slope Food Coop, a 17,000+ working-member food coop in Brooklyn, NY. Before that, Charlene worked as a major accounts shipment-owner for the container-shipping carrier P&O Nedlloyd in San Francisco (exports) and Atlanta (imports), specializing in refrigerated and hazardous cargo. 

Exploring Maine is a constant joy for Charlene who enjoys gardening, cooking, singing in the car and walking beaches & trails with their dogs, Cielo and Hoxley.

On land conservation: “I didn’t plan to move back to New England but the landscape of Maine captured my heart. After living in Brooklyn, NY for over 13 years my spouse and I moved to Maine so we could explore Maine’s beautiful coast year-round. Climate change impact and access to the water for work, food, and play are just some of many reasons why I believe we need to protect coastal land.”

On the job: Charlene is responsible for providing administrative support, meeting coordination and communications for the President, the Director of Engagement, and the Board of Directors. Charlene also has a hand in coordinating administrative support and operations across the organization.
