50 Years of Impact

Nonprofit land conservation organization Maine Coast Heritage Trust began in 1970 to protect the qualities that make the Maine coast unlike any other places in the world: wild islands, vast spruce-fir forests, rocky shorelines, and a way of life deeply connected to the land and sea.

Since that time, through the generosity of thousands, MCHT has made a deep and lasting impact on the Maine coast, helping to protect nearly 160,000 acres of land and over 300 islands. On our fiftieth anniversary, we’re celebrating all that has been accomplished, and MCHT’s evolution along the way.
