Bog Brook Night Walk, Trescott

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Field Trip Description
Acquired by MCHT in 2008, the 1600-acre Bog Brook Preserve encapsulates all the beauty of the Bold Coast. On this night we'll take in the sunset and headland views of the ocean and Grand Manan - then listen for Woodcock, Owls and anything else we can find in the fine diverse habitats of fields, wetlands and woods. The new moon offers a chance for some great stargazing, weather permitting.
Directions & Where to Meet
From Route 1 in East Machias turn southeast onto Route 191. Follow Route 191 through many twists and turns for 20 miles and then turn right onto an unmarked road (it is the only road that has a small triangle in the middle of the turn). Go straight ahead and park before the new gravel road that splits to the left.
What to Bring & What to Expect
Participants should bring good walking shoes (not sandals), extra layers of clothing (examples: wind breaker, rain jacket, fleece), water, food, insect repellent, flashlight and a hat. In addition, you are encouraged to bring a camera, binoculars, and field guides. Participants should expect easy to moderately difficult trails that will include inclines, uneven footing, and rough terrain.
