Ways to Give

Your generosity helps protect the character of Maine. Every gift, regardless of size, matters. Unrestricted gifts provide MCHT with the most flexibility and respond to an ever-changing environment, which is paramount to successful land conservation. Here are several ways that you can make a gift. Contact our Development staff for more information.

Transfer Securities: A gift of securities not only helps Maine Coast Heritage Trust, but may avoid capital gains. If you would like to contribute securities, see instructions (PDF).

Matching Gift: an employer’s matching gift program increases a gift’s impact.

Memorial or Honorary Gift: you can pay a lasting tribute to someone whose life has had special importance to you by helping to ensure that future generations can enjoy the most special places in Maine for years to come. To make a memorial or honorary gift, you may use our online form or contact the Membership Manager, Kristen Eaton at keaton@mcht.org or (207) 729-7366. Unless you indicate otherwise, both you and your honoree (or their family) will receive our newsletter, Maine Heritage, for one year.

Gift Membership: your friend or family member will be welcomed as a member of Maine Coast Heritage Trust and receive a gift envelope with membership materials.

Gifts of Land or Conservation Easement : Receiving gifts of land or conservation easements lies at the heart of our work. We are deeply grateful to all landowners who wish to conserve their land. MCHT has land protection project managers covering the entire coast who can work with you to conserve your property, either with us or with a local land trust. (See Donating Land)

There are many options available to landowners interested in protecting their land. MCHT staff can help find the solution that best fits your and your property’s needs. In addition to contacting us directly, you can view a version of our publication Conservation Options: A Guide for Maine Landowners.

Planned Giving: include MCHT in your will, or establish a life payment gift such as a Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust or other planned giving options.

Restricted and Capital Gifts: Unrestricted support provides MCHT with the most flexibility to meet its priorities. But we recognize that some donors would like to designate their gifts for specific land acquisition projects, stewardship expenses or community programming. For information on how to make a designated gift, contact MCHT’s Development Staff. At this time, MCHT is currently in a partnership with Pew Charitable Trusts and offers a 50% match of gifts made directly to Pew for specific land acquisition and stewardship projects.
