June 7th: Hamilton Cove Stewardship Day

In celebration of National Trails Day, help MCHT staff construct bog bridging over wet trail areas at our rugged, 376-acre Hamilton Cove Preserve. Hamilton Cove hosts an unusually high number of bogs, fens and other wetlands and streams that require careful attention to trail building and maintenance to preserve public access. We will carry cedar logs and planks about one-half (1/2) mile, then be guided using mattocks, shovels, mallets and construction staplers to prepare the ground, create the walkways, lay planks, pound spikes, and cover the planks with chicken wire. You will easily be able to see the results of your labor in a short time, making it a truly satisfying and enjoyable day. Simple hand tools, lunch, and a sense of real accomplishment provided.

Hamilton Cove Preserve, Lubec, 10am-2pm, Free. Rain date June 8.
